BLACK BELT GRADING INFORMATION

Earning your Black Belt is the first step on your BEYOND BLACK BELT JOURNEY. Once you have earned your 1st Dan or Poom belt, more training is required than at the colour belt level to progress to the next level.

Our philosophy at HDMA is that Black Belts should train to improve, rather than training solely for Gradings, however setting goals is an important part of fruitful training. See below for some guidelines regarding your future training and Gradings!

The Journey to Your Next Belt

Congratulations

Well done on passing your Grading! This is definitely a time to celebrate and be proud!

Your New Syllabus

You should receive your new Syllabus via email. This will help you keep track of your progress and give you some idea of what your next Grading will look like.

Time to Train!

Keep working hard in class to improve your skills and learn/perfect your new syllabus! REMEMBER you must record your attendance when you come to class! As a Black Belt, this is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!

Receive Your Pre-Grading Checklist

Once you have completed the Training Time and Class Attendance requirements (see "Earning Your Recommendation" below), you will receive your Pre-Grading Checklist via email. When you are comfortable with all items on the list, please submit this form to your Instructors for them to check you in class.

Receive your Black Belt Application

Once your Instructors have completed your Pre-Grading Checklist, they will return it to you with your Grading Application!

Return your Completed Application

Return your Application fully filled in, with all necessary fees, essays and other requirements. This must be submitted AT MINIMUM one week prior to Grading.

Attend Your Next Available Grading!

Earning Your Recommendation

CLASS ATTENDANCE

Each level has a minimum number of classes you must attend to be considered for your next level. Consult your current syllabus!

Your Training Time is the active number of days you have spent since achieving your last rank. Please note that long breaks do not count to your active Training Time. Consult your syllabus for your required Training Time.

CLUB CULTURE

Our Black Belts are expected to exemplify the Club Oath at all times, and contribute to a positive club environment.

COMPLETED PRE-GRADING CHECKLIST

Once the previous requirements are met, you will complete your Pre-Grading Checklist to check if you have comfortably completed your current Syllabus. This will be completed by Instructor during class after submission.

Important Notes

RECORD YOUR ATTENDANCE!

As a Black Belt, it is your job to record your attendance. If you are responsible enough to be a Black Belt, you can take responsibility for recording your attendance. Any missed records will not be counted towards Grading Attendance.
